Questions
Questions people ask first
Straight answers about how we work. Can't see your question? Call us or book a call.
How do mortgage brokers get paid?
Lenders pay us a commission when your loan settles and a smaller ongoing commission while the loan stays open. We tell you how we're paid, and how much, before you go ahead. See how we're paid.
Does using a broker cost me anything?
In most cases, no. If a fee ever applies, for example for some complex commercial work, we tell you in writing before you proceed.
Do you work in my best interests?
Yes. Mortgage brokers are legally required to act in your best interests when recommending a loan. We explain why we recommend each option.
How many lenders do you work with?
We have access to a panel of over 60 banks and lenders through our licensee. Not every lender is available to every broker, and our Credit Guide lists the lenders we use most.
Can you help if I'm self-employed or on a visa?
Yes. Both are a big part of our work. See our pages for self-employed borrowers and visa holders.
How long does a home loan take?
Pre-approval often takes a few days to two weeks. Formal approval after you've bought usually takes one to three weeks, and settlement is set by your contract.
Do I have to meet you in person?
No. We meet at our Rhodes office, at your home or by video call, whichever suits you.
What happens after my loan settles?
We stay in touch. We review your rate every six months and ask your lender to reprice when it falls behind the market.
Can you help if my credit history isn't perfect?
Often, yes. It depends on what happened and how long ago. See credit history issues.
How do I make a complaint?
Talk to us first. If we can't resolve it, our licensee's resolutions team can help, and you can also go to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. See complaints.
